Marian Movement of Priests
Reverend Don Stefano Gobbi
On May 8, 1972, while Father Gobbi was praying in the Chapel of the Apparitions at Fatima for some priests who had not only given up their vocations, but were attempting to form themselves into associations in opposition to the Church’s authority, he heard an interior “force” tell him that Our Lady would make use of him to gather these priests into her Immaculate Heart. She promised to use him to form a “powerful cohort” that would spread throughout the world and be strongly united to the Pope and to the Church. The Marian Movement of Priests was soon born.
In 1973 Father Gobbi began to jot down some “limpid and strong thoughts which sprang up in his soul.” He gathered them into a book, To the Priests: Our Lady’s Beloved Sons, and presented it to the Marian Movement. It was negatively received because it lacked ecclesiastical approval and was presented as locutions given by our Lady. The priests feared that it would meet many obstacles due to the large number of other doubtful, even pathological messages circulating throughout the world. Members thought the content was “problematic” for many reasons. The book was gradually accepted by an ever-increasing number of priests. It has now been translated into almost every language.
Neither the movement nor the messages have been approved by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, according to a letter addressed to all members of the Marian Movement of Priests, dated October 7, 1998, and signed by the national director, Reverend Albert G. Roux. The secretary for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, in a personal letter to Father Gobbi, requested and advised that he not claim in the book’s preface that the messages are from the Blessed Mother, but rather that they are the product of his own personal meditations; although Father Gobbi continued to affirm that he received the messages from the Mother of God.
The Millennial Reign of Christ on earth is at the heart of the messages. Father Gobbi was told that by the year 2000, “there will take place the triumph of my Immaculate Heart, of which I foretold you at Fatima, and this will come to pass with the return of Jesus in glory to establish his Reign in the world. Thus you will at last be able to see with your own eyes the new heavens and the new earth.” Father Gobbi explained in 1996 that this Second Coming was really an “intermediate” coming in which the Lord would appear and return to earth for a period of time before the end of the world. Jesus would not be present in the flesh, but would only reign in our will and by means of the Eucharist. Gobbi insisted it would take place before the Last Judgment and within the course of human history; even though the Catholic Church has rejected all forms of millenarianism.
On November 14, 1984, speaking from Yugoslavia, the Lady affirmed that she is the same Queen of Peace who is appearing to the seers of Medjugorje, declaring that the former Yugoslavia is a “land which is so threatened by my Adversary and yours but which is so loved and protected by me.” This message was given only a few years before the civil war began in Bosnia-Herzegovina, which devastated the Catholic Church in the region.
On July 3, 1987, the Queen of Peace revealed to Father Gobbi: “The most painful, most bloody hours are in preparation for you. These times are closer than you think. Already during this Marian year, certain great events will take place, concerning what I predicted at Fatima and have told, under secrecy, to the children to whom I am appearing at Medjugorje.” None of Medjugorje’s secrets have been revealed to date and in 1987 there were no “great events” related to the promised chastisements.
The Queen of Peace told Father Gobbi that the Catholic Church would be condemned and persecuted and promised there would be bloodshed. The only remedy was to join her “cohort,” where members would receive her “great light” in an extraordinary manner. When the man of iniquity enters the Church she promised she would gather her “little remnant” to meet Jesus in glory, similar to the idea of the “rapture” that has also been revealed through occultists. On October 13, 1990, the anniversary of the last apparition of Fatima, she stated that “With a small number of these children, the Lord will soon restore on earth his glorious reign of love, of holiness and of peace.”
The very next message reveals that the “Second Pentecost” will coincide with a new fire that “will come down from heaven and will purify all humanity, which has again become pagan. It will be like a judgment in miniature and each one will see himself in the light of the very Truth of God…. Then my Heart-of-a-Mother will have its triumph over all humanity, which will return to a new marriage of love and of life with its Heavenly Father.”
The conversion of all sinners does not coincide with the little remnant mentioned in the previous message, nor is there any explanation of how and when the “man of iniquity” will enter the Church. The Queen of Peace revealed at Medjugorje that few would still be alive by the time the third secret was revealed, which would be followed by seven great calamities that would kill nearly everyone on the planet, which can hardly be called a “new marriage of love.”
Furthermore, the judgment in miniature, although not consistent with Holy Scripture, perfectly describes the occult Master Plan: the day when Lucifer will reveal himself to mankind as the “Lord of the World.” It has also been called the “warning” or “purification,” as propagated at Garabandal and Medjugorje and by the seer Vassula Ryden.
The Queen of Peace told Father Gobbi at Fatima on May 13, 1990, the anniversary of the first apparition: “Humanity has not accepted my motherly request to return to the Lord along the road of conversion of heart and of life, of prayer and of penance. Thus it has known the terrible years of the second world war, which brought about tens of millions of deaths and vast destruction of populaces and of nations.” It was not until 1941 that Lucia, the Fatima visionary, related for the first time the first two parts of a three-part secret that she received from the Virgin. The Third Memoir was written in August 1941, two years after World War II began and was not disseminated until several years later. It is clear that humanity did not know of this “motherly request” in time to prevent the war.
In the same message, the Queen of Peace said, “Russia has not been consecrated to me by the Pope together with all the bishops and thus she has not received the grace of conversion and has spread her errors throughout all parts of the world, provoking wars, violence, bloody revolutions and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father.” Sister Lucia, now deceased, affirmed that Pope John Paul II consecrated Russia, as requested, on March 25, 1984. The message suggests that Russia is to blame for all errors, wars, violence, and persecutions in the world, thanks to Pope John Paul II’s failure to make the consecration.
A message given on September 18, 1988, at a Cenacle of the Marian Movement of Priests held at Fatima, is entitled “A Period of Ten Years.” These ten decisive years, from 1988 through 1998, were said to be the final period of the Second Advent in which “there will come to completion that fullness of time which was pointed out to you by me, beginning with La Salette all the way to my most recent and present apparitions.” During this period of ten years, the purification and the great tribulation would come to their culmination, the mystery of iniquity would become manifest, and “all the secrets which I have revealed to some of my children will come to pass and all the events which have been foretold to you by me will take place.” It did not occur. Furthermore, the secret message of La Salette, which deals with the great tribulation, was condemned by the Catholic Church.
A circular letter from Reverend Albert G. Roux, National Director of the Marian Movement of Priests, addressed this problem, which he admitted “has proven problematic for many.” Father Roux quotes Father Gobbi in an interview in August 1999 as saying that “our Lady does not build this triumph of God all at once from one evening to the following morning, almost like a magical trick…. When the time will come—and for me it is the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000—she will lift her mantle, and a cohort formed in every part of the world will be seen: her Marian Movement of Priests formed by the bishops, the priests and the faithful. At that moment, she will say: This is the triumph of my Immaculate Heart in the world.” Ten years later the prophecies still have not been fulfilled.
